The week was dominated by reports of job losses from energy firm BXC where over 400 workers were retrenched. That was followed by 40 dispatch riders and 50 security guards of Top Core also losing their jobs.
It did not end there, as the former presidential candidate for the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Papa Kwesi Nduom’s GN Media also laid off 30 staffs.
Also, the newly created Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited has laid off 1700 workers.
Some of the affected persons told Joy News they are yet to receive any official letters from their companies.
According to some of them, they were only called into a meeting and told the organisation cannot continue to pay them so they have to go home.
The aggrieved staff say they have nothing to go home with thus their demand for their August salary and a severance package.
Ghana Connect sought answers from some of the affected persons on whether something is fundamentally wrong with the Ghanaian economy which is leading to the massive job losses.
The panellist shared their thoughts on whether the recent job losses are just isolated cases or widespread across different sectors of the economy?
Joining the discussion was Issah Salifu, a dispatch rider who has just lost his job this week. Also sharing his story was Mercel Hughes, a young of many parts travels to China very often for business.
Raymond Offei Danquah, a former manager at Capital Bank now a businessman grills pork for a living was also part of the discussion.
